Open access research in education and STEM from Cambodia and the region

Article types accepted

  • Research article — 3,000–8,000 words excluding references
  • Review article — 5,000–12,000 words (systematic, scoping, or narrative reviews)
  • Case study — 2,000–4,000 words, including teaching cases and applied implementations
  • Short communication — 1,500–3,000 words for time-sensitive findings
  • Editorial — 800–1,500 words, by invitation from the Editor-in-Chief
  • Book review — 800–1,500 words

Manuscript structure

  1. Title page — title, authors, affiliations, ORCID iDs, corresponding author
  2. Abstract — 150–300 words, structured (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions)
  3. Keywords — 3–8 terms
  4. Introduction
  5. Methods
  6. Results
  7. Discussion
  8. Conclusion
  9. Declarations — conflict of interest, data availability, funding, ethics approval (where applicable)
  10. References

Language and abstracts

Manuscripts may be submitted in Khmer, English, or bilingually (a primary language with secondary support). Regardless of primary language:

  • Khmer and English abstracts are required for every submission
  • Khmer and English titles are required
  • Khmer keywords are optional when the primary language is English

Formatting

  • A4 page size with 2.5 cm margins
  • Khmer text — Khmer OS Battambang or Khmer OS Siemreap, 12 pt
  • English text — Times New Roman or Calibri, 12 pt
  • 1.5 or double line spacing
  • Line numbers in the left margin (required for review)
  • Tables and figures may be inline or separate; provide clear captions and refer to them in the text

Reference style

CJES accepts both APA 7th edition (for education and social sciences) and Vancouver (for medical and health sciences). Use one style consistently throughout the manuscript. Reference managers such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote are strongly recommended. Include DOIs or URLs where available.

Tables, figures, and supplementary materials

  • Number tables and figures sequentially; cite each in the text
  • Minimum 300 dpi for raster images; vector formats (SVG, EPS) preferred for line art
  • Captions must contain sufficient information for stand-alone interpretation
  • Supplementary materials (data, code, video, supplementary methods) submitted as separate files
